I adore limes now – even more than lemons – but when I was a kid I hated anything lime. Green was the last flavour I’d want to pick out of a fruit-flavoured candy rainbow. Suckers? Hard candies? Kool-Aid? Never wanted green. (Until I discovered that an older cousin of mine – whom I really looked up to – preferred lime. After that, I pretended for a while that I liked it too.)
Do you like lime-flavoured anything?
What’s your favorite fruit flavour? Least favorite? Most disgusting?
Do you like other green flavours? (kiwi, mint, green apple…)

I keep my toilet paper in a basket on top of my toilet tank, because when my cats were little they kept unwinding rolls of the stuff all over the floor, in fun.

When I was a little girl I once turned on the taps so strongly that I couldn’t remember which way to turn them to make the water stop. I turned and turned the taps each way, but the water kept pouring out of the faucet, quickly filling the sink. I started screaming for my mother, because I didn’t know what else to do. She told me I should only scream like that if someone was badly hurt.

If you were a bathroom fixture designer, what features would you want in a tap?

It’s peach season right now in Ontario. Peaches are probably my favorite fruit – made even more special because I don’t eat them except when they’re in season. A perfect peach is a feast for the senses: its fragrance is delicate and delicious, its skin is soft and velvety, its texture is silky and tender, and its taste is exquisitely sweet and tart. Peaches even look beautiful (although I tend to think that most fruits and vegetables look beautiful when piled together).
What peach memories do you have?
What do peaches make you think of?
If you could design the perfect fruit, what qualities would it have?

I use this lemon reamer nearly every day to juice a lime or two for my salad dressings. In the winter I used it to juice oranges for my daily smoothies. I love the way it feels in my hand – love the way it extends the utility of my hands, love the eye-squinching juice that drips down the sides of my palms, sticky.
Have you ever juiced a lemon? Have you ever made a recipe with fresh lemon juice?
What do the words lemon or reamer make you think of?
What else do you wish you could ream, to extract all its goodness?
